CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION



Career and Technical Education (CTE) at Todd Beamer High School provides students with hands-on learning opportunities that prepare them for future careers and college pathways. Through courses in areas such as business, technology, engineering, health sciences, and marketing, students gain practical skills and real-world experience. CTE programs often include internships, certifications, and leadership opportunities. Overall, the CTE program helps our students develop career-ready skills, explore different professions, and build a strong foundation for success after high school.



BUSINESS & MARKETING PROGRAM OF STUDY



Publishing (Yearbook)



The Publishing (Yearbook) program gives students the opportunity to create and produce the school’s annual yearbook. Students learn skills in photography, writing, graphic design, editing, and marketing while documenting important events, activities, and memories from the school year. Working together as a team, students develop creativity, organization, and communication skills while meeting deadlines and managing a large project.



Personal Finance Math



Personal Finance Math teaches students practical math skills that help them manage money and make smart financial decisions in everyday life. In this course, students learn how to create budgets, understand credit and loans, calculate interest, manage bank accounts, and plan for expenses such as housing, transportation, and savings. The class connects math to real-world situations so students can better understand how financial choices affect their future.



Game Design



Game Design gives students the opportunity to learn how video games are created, from the early concept to the final playable product. In this course, students explore skills such as storytelling, graphic design, coding, animation, and problem-solving while designing their own games or working on group projects. They also learn about the game development process, including testing and improving their designs.



AP Computer Science



AP Computer Science is an advanced course that introduces students to the fundamentals of computer programming and problem-solving. Students learn how to write and understand code, develop algorithms, and create programs while using logical thinking and computational skills. The class often focuses on programming concepts such as variables, loops, conditionals, and object-oriented.



Web Design



Web Design teaches students how to create and develop websites using design and coding skills. In this course, students learn the basics of webpage layout, graphics, and user experience while working with tools and languages such as HTML and CSS. They also explore how to organize content, design visually appealing pages, and make websites easy to navigate.



Introduction to Marketing



Introduction to Marketing introduces students to the basic concepts of how businesses promote and sell products and services. In this course, students learn about advertising, branding, consumer behavior, market research, and sales strategies. They also explore how companies attract customers and build successful businesses in competitive markets.



Fashion Marketing



Fashion Marketing introduces students to the business side of the fashion industry. In this course, students learn how clothing and fashion products are promoted, branded, and sold to consumers. Topics often include fashion trends, advertising, merchandising, retail management, and customer behavior.



Marketing Operations



Marketing Operations teaches students how businesses plan, organize, and manage marketing activities to successfully promote products and services. In this course, students learn about sales strategies, customer service, market research, inventory management, and business operations.



FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCES PROGRAM OF STUDY



American Sign Language



American Sign Language (ASL) teaches students how to communicate using sign language and understand Deaf culture. In this course, students learn vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills in ASL, as well as the social and cultural aspects of the Deaf community. The class also emphasizes communication, listening, and visual learning skills.



Teacher Academy



Teacher Academy provides students with an introduction to the teaching profession and the skills needed to work in educational settings. In this course, students learn about lesson planning, classroom management, child development, and instructional strategies. They may also gain hands-on experience by observing or assisting in classrooms.



Nutrition and Wellness



Nutrition and Wellness teaches students how to make healthy choices to support physical, mental, and emotional well-being. In this course, students learn about balanced diets, meal planning, exercise, and lifestyle habits that promote overall health. The class also covers topics such as reading nutrition labels, understanding nutrients, and developing personal wellness plans.



Culinary Arts Foundation



Culinary Arts Foundation introduces students to the basics of cooking, food preparation, and kitchen safety. In this course, students learn essential culinary skills such as measuring, cooking techniques, recipe development, and proper sanitation practices. The class often includes hands-on activities where students prepare a variety of dishes while learning teamwork and time management.



Child Development



Child Development teaches students about the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth of children from infancy through adolescence. In this course, students learn about child care, learning styles, health and safety, and effective communication with children and families. The class often includes hands-on activities, observations, and projects that help students understand real-world child development.



Family Psychology and Health



Family Psychology and Health teaches students about the dynamics, relationships, and well-being of families. In this course, students learn about communication, conflict resolution, mental and emotional health, and strategies to support healthy family environments. The class often explores topics such as stress management, personal development, and the impact of social and cultural factors on families.



HEALTH SCIENCES PROGRAM OF STUDY



Biomedical Science



Biomedical Science introduces students to the study of human health, diseases, and medical science. In this course, students learn about anatomy, physiology, genetics, microbiology, and medical research techniques. They may also participate in lab experiments, case studies, and hands-on activities to explore how science is applied to diagnose, treat, and prevent illnesses.



Biomedical Innovation



Biomedical Innovation focuses on applying science and technology to solve real-world health and medical problems. In this course, students explore biomedical research, design thinking, and problem-solving while developing innovative solutions for medical challenges. They often work on hands-on projects, experiments, and case studies to understand how new technologies and treatments can improve patient care.



Human Body Systems



Human Body Systems teaches students about the structure and function of the human body. In this course, students study major body systems such as the circulatory, respiratory, nervous, muscular, and skeletal systems, and learn how they work together to maintain health. The class often includes hands-on activities, labs, and experiments to explore anatomy, physiology, and medical concepts.



Physics of Medical Interventions



Physics of Medical Interventions explores how principles of physics are applied in medical technology and treatments. In this course, students learn about forces, motion, energy, and mechanics in the context of medical devices, imaging systems, prosthetics, and other healthcare innovations. Hands-on experiments and projects help students understand how physics concepts are used to diagnose, treat, and improve patient care.



Introduction to Health Careers



Introduction to Health Careers gives students an overview of the variety of professions in the healthcare field. In this course, students explore careers such as nursing, medicine, biomedical research, public health, and allied health professions, while learning about workplace skills, ethics, and responsibilities. The class often includes hands-on activities, job shadowing, and career exploration projects to help students understand real-world healthcare environments.



SKILLED & TECHNICAL SCIENCES PROGRAM OF STUDY



Graphic Design



Graphic Design teaches students how to create visual content for digital and print media. In this course, students learn design principles, typography, color theory, and software tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. They apply creativity and technical skills to design logos, posters, advertisements, and other visual projects.



Commercial Photography



Commercial Photography teaches students how to create professional-quality photographs for advertising, media, and business purposes. In this course, students learn about camera techniques, lighting, composition, editing, and photo presentation. They work on hands-on projects that develop creativity, technical skills, and attention to detail.



AP 2D Design Photography



AP 2D Design Photography is an advanced art course that focuses on developing students’ skills in photographic composition, design, and creative expression. In this class, students learn technical photography skills, editing techniques, and how to use photography to communicate ideas and tell stories visually. The course emphasizes creativity, critical thinking, and portfolio development in preparation for the College Board AP exam.



AP Studio Art 2D



AP Studio Art 2D is an advanced art course where students focus on creating two-dimensional artworks such as drawings, paintings, prints, and digital designs. In this class, students explore composition, design principles, and artistic techniques while developing a portfolio that demonstrates creativity, skill, and personal expression. The course prepares students for the College Board AP Studio Art exam and emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-reflection.



Visual Communications



Visual Communications teaches students how to effectively convey ideas and information through visual media. In this course, students learn design principles, typography, layout, color theory, and digital tools to create projects such as posters, advertisements, and presentations. The class emphasizes creativity, problem-solving, and clear communication while helping students develop technical and artistic skills.



Technical Theater



Technical Theater teaches students the behind-the-scenes skills needed to support theatrical productions. In this course, students learn about stagecraft, lighting, sound design, set construction, props, and costume design. They gain hands-on experience working on school plays, musicals, and other performances, developing teamwork, problem-solving, and technical skills.



AFJROTC



The AFJROTC helps develop leadership, discipline, and teamwork among students. Through activities such as leadership training, community service, physical fitness, and drill competitions, cadets learn responsibility and build confidence while working together toward common goals. The program also encourages respect, citizenship, and personal growth, helping students prepare for college, careers, and future leadership opportunities in their communities.

Intro to Engineering Design



Introduction to Engineering Design introduces students to the fundamentals of engineering and the design process. In this course, students learn problem-solving, technical drawing, computer-aided design (CAD), prototyping, and project development while working on real-world engineering challenges. The class emphasizes creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork as students design and test solutions to practical problems.



Engineering Design & Development



Engineering Design & Development is an advanced course where students apply engineering principles to solve real-world problems. In this class, students work in teams to research, design, prototype, and test a product or system from start to finish, often using computer-aided design (CAD) tools and hands-on construction. The course emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, project management, and collaboration, simulating real engineering experiences.



Principles of Engineering/Robotics



Principles of Engineering/Robotics introduces students to the fundamentals of engineering and robotics. In this course, students learn concepts such as mechanical design, programming, automation, sensors, and problem-solving while building and programming robots for hands-on projects and competitions. The class emphasizes teamwork, critical thinking, and technical skills, giving students practical experience in designing and controlling robotic systems.



Aerospace Engineering



Aerospace Engineering introduces students to the principles of designing, building, and testing aircraft and spacecraft. In this course, students learn about aerodynamics, flight mechanics, propulsion, materials, and engineering design while working on hands-on projects and simulations. The class emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork as students explore real-world aerospace challenges.



Engineering Essentials



Engineering Essentials introduces students to the core concepts and practices of engineering and design. In this course, students learn problem-solving, technical drawing, basic mechanics, materials science, and the engineering design process through hands-on projects. The class emphasizes creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration as students work to design, build, and test solutions to real-world challenges.
